Auto Suggestion + Repetition: The Best Foundation of Change

When I think of auto suggestion I think “self-told” or “self-encouraged.” I am telling myself to do or be something.

Not only am I telling myself to do or be something, I visualize myself executing and being successful at it. I believe we can change our habits or ways of being by changing the foundation of our thoughts, which is our subconscious mind.

To change our subconscious mind and things about our lives we must start with thoughts we hold, in repetition, and how we regularly view ourselves.

If we can see it in our minds (visualization), we can have or change it in our lives.

Auto Suggestion + Repetition, the building blocks of our subconscious

Repetition in What is Being Told to You.

What do you regularly say to yourself about your abilities? “I’m gonna nail this!” “Oh man, I”m not sure.” “I know I’ve got this!”

Family and friends, are they uplifting? Encouraging? Doubtful too? Do you feel like your best self around them?

When it comes to media (music, tv, social media, entertainment and etc.), does it reinforce who you are and what you think?

Are you consuming imagery of people who look like you and are doing well or happy?

As you’ll see throughout out many of my posts about the subconscious, music is also an incredibly important one for me. I believe music can be semi-trance inducing ( I believe music casts spells). Its repetitive beats, chorus, words and melody all gets submitted to our subconscious and can inspire us to be excited, jovial, feel sexy, happy, soothed, aggressive, creative, sad and many other moods. I generally want to dwell on feelings of the positive sort, so I generally list to music that reflects that which I desire to be/feel.

Having dominion over what is on auto-play in our mind visually and “audibly” is one of best things we can for our lives.

Moreover, if we aren’t in control of what we regularly think about, who or what is?

Repetition forms habits, habits form beliefs. Our beliefs affect how we function in this world.

What do You Regularly See About Yourself?

Mentally or while looking at yourself in the mirror do you regularly think nice things about yourself?

Do you see yourself as being organized, thoughtful, loving and generally nailing life and doing your best?  A work in progress?

Or do you see yourself as a “hotmess” who really needs to “get it together?”

If you see yourself as not doing well or failing, how could  you reframe it to encourage and uplift yourself?

There was a time in my life when i’d look in the mirror and feel, “ugh” and just plain “blah” and like I “had so much work to do”.

Now, thanks to being mindful about how I speak to myself and think of myself,  I have changed the foundation of my subconscious thoughts. I feel happy and grateful when I see my reflection in the mirror (more on that later, if you’re interested (let me know if the comments if you’d like to hear about my self-confidence journey).

Auto Suggestion + Repetition: The Foundation of Change

Repetitive, Small Challenges Lead to Big Gains.

Start with a thought.

It has been said that a positive thought is 1000x much more powerful than a negative one.

So, if you’re ever feeling self-doubt or saying negative things about yourself or others, immediately replace those words or thoughts with something good.

Ever beat yourself up about something you’ve said or done, even after apologizing and being forgiven? I have and I consciously work at having more grace with myself.

If i’m ever particularly stuck, here’s how I get over it:

I hear an airhorn blaring while an X simultaneously covers and deletes the thought in my mind’s eye. As I write this it feels a bit embarrassing and sounds a little silly, but it works! When I “X” it, it is over and I have to let it go.

Another example, need to exercise more?

If you haven’t worked out in years, but then randomly promise yourself you’ll hit it hard 5 days a week, 1 hour a day, starting Monday. That will be a really big undertaking.

New habits usually come in time, with repetition, so if you want to set yourself up for better success maybe try 15-20 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  Personally, I now aim for at least 30mins a day, but if i’m starting out already physically exhausted 15 minutes will do the job too.

Reward yourself big or small on your wins with repetition in all of your endeavors

Auto Suggestion + Repetition: The Foundation of Change

A Job Well Done – Reward Yourself in Small and Big Ways.

Actually remember to tell yourself, a loud, “good job” or “I’m proud of you/myself” when you’ve been successful at reaching a goal (especially if  it is something you had been putting it off).

Example, when I started working out regularly I promised myself I would buy a small gift for completing 7 consecutive days as a reward. And to keep count for each time I worked out, I would place a small heart on the day I completed in my calendar.

However, over a short period time those little hearts quickly became the reward and motivated me to keep going! I looked forward to receiving those little hearts every single day! Amazing!

Another interesting thing is, by the time I reached 2 weeks I didn’t feel a desire to buy myself a gift at the end of day 7.  My new routine had taken shape and getting any form of exercise felt effortless and unlike a chore.  I now happily look forward to exercising and feel really bummed if I miss one! Girl! The growth!

All of this being said, we cannot change ourselves without taking action, having repetition in positive thought, and visualizing ourselves succeeding at our endeavors.

I hope you find this post inspiring and if it helps you in anyway I would love to hear about it!

See you again soon.

Love,

LaRie
