Your Best Perfume: How to buy a scents that last.
When purchasing a bottle of perfume did you know you can predict its scent longevity based on the concentration levels of perfume noted on the bottle?
If you don’t know what concentration levels I’m referring to keep reading!
I have often heard mentions for various classes of scents, but never really put much thought into it.
Maybe it’s because I am not a big perfume person.
In the last 10 years or more I think I have purchased 4 bottles of “perfume”. I am particular about smells and I don’t like the smell of most perfumed anything.
Plus, some stuff makes me sneeze and some give me a headache.
Clearly, I’m not much of a perfume person, but if something captures my attention I will buy it. Over and over.
That being said! My last perfume purchases have been absolute winners.
Here are my last 4 purchases and favorites:
Tocca
Jo Malone English Fields Collection 2018
-Primrose and Rye
(Limited Edition – No longer available. BOOOOOOOO!)
Byredo
Jo Malone
- Vetiver & Golden Vanilla Cologne Intense
While we’re at it, do you remember green tea by Elizabeth Arden? LOLOLOL! That was my JAM.
SNAP! THIS JUST IN! It is still avail be for purchase!
I might buy it just because. Wow. Throwback.
Now to the good stuff…
Your Best Perfume: How to buy a scents that last.
*HOW LONG WILL YOUR SCENT LAST?
Ever wonder what that cute, french writing at the bottom of your perfume means? Yep, by now, if you didn’t know already, it tells you how much perfume oil has been added to the bottle youre interested in purchasing.
What each means:
Parfum
Parfum has the highest concentration of perfume oils, between 20 – 40% and can last on the skin for about 6 to 8 hours.
Having the longest scent wearing time and higher perfume concentration means you will spend more money for it. That being said, I have never purchased a full-on perfume.
Have you? Was it worth it? I’m so curious, so I might end up with some for once in my life.
Eau de Parfum
Contains between 10-20% of perfume oil. Eau de Parfum will last around 4-5 hours.
Eau de Toilette
Contains around 5-15% of perfume oil. Eau de Toilette fragrances often have a quick burst of beautiful smells before fading; meaning they can make a great first impression. These fragrances will last somewhere between 3-4 hours.
Eau de Cologne
Has only around 2-4% of perfume oil, and is often used as a body splash to freshen up at regular intervals. As a rule, Eau de Cologne doesn’t last long, you’ll get around 2 hours.
Eau Fraiche
The lightest concentration is Eau Fraiche. There is only 1-2% of perfume oil in this type of fragrance, and is incredibly light.
This is perfect for those who don’t want a heavy scent! Eau Fraiche will only last a couple of hours, at best, but they are great for creating a subtle, delicate fragrance and is mostly water.
