Travel makes me so happy!

I don’t know if it was on tv or something I read on the internet, but I saw a statistic that said most Americans are generally unhappy.  Upon reading that I was so shocked and it inspired to share what helps me to stay out of a rut and feel happy majority of the time. Which brings me to today’s post (and video). I am sharing 10 Proven Ways to Feel Better Right Now!

I have hit super lows, like almost being homeless, to amazing highs, like graduating college, finding myself as a person, finding and marrying the man of my dreams, having 2 amazing children after battling huge fibroids. So coasting midway between low and high is fine by me! I aint greedy!

Of course I have off days or moments, and sometimes I feel straight up BLUE, frustrated or pissed! However, some of my most important goals in life is to lead a life of happiness, inspire others to do the same, and spread positivity along the way.  If you think you’d better enjoy these tips in video form you can find it here. 

To summarize, I believe we have more control over our lives than so many realize and happiness is not as elusive as so many people think.

Moreover, I don’t believe happiness is something that is reached once I do…. Once I get…. Once I learn to…. Happiness is right now, right where you are, this present moment. By the way, how do you define happiness?  Once I learned that life is what I “create” and that, “I march to the beat of my own drum,” my life changed drastically, for the better.

Happiness: 10 Proven Ways to Feel Better Right Now!

1. Gratitude.  

First, start a gratitude journal and, every night before bed, write down 3-5 things that you are most grateful for that day.  It can be something as simple as a delicious up of coffee.

2. Travel.

Take a trip. Big or small, a road trip, or even a quick day away. New scenery clears my mind and deeply inspires me. Experiencing new cultures and seeing something geographically different charges me right up! Even a long walk in my local neighborhood, checking out a new park or restaurant can be just as refreshing. Sometimes my goal is to simply break away from routines that can get quite stale.

3. Stop looking backwards.

I am a strong believer in “ you are what you think about most of the time”.  Put time, focus, and energy into what you do WANT. Try not putting thought and energy thinking about what you don’t want and “hate” and watch your life improve dramatically.

4. Eat Better.

Sounds super easy, right?  We all know we need to do it, yet it is one of the toughest things to keep on top of. However, even small changes can lead to a much happier you. Start with eating at least one really healthy meal a day. Don’t know what to eat? 5. Exercise.

It has been scientifically proven that exercising 3x a week for 30 mins a day is . Recently, I started exercising a 1/2 hour a day and now (a few months later) I am up to 1 hour and have incorporated 4-5 sets of squats with each 3 mile walk/run.  Build as you go.  Even something as small as 10 minutes can get you on your way. Start where you can. Sometimes starting is really the toughest part! Am I right? !

***6. Seek Professional Help.

Speaking with a professional can save you time, heartache and can be one your fastest routes to a lifetime of happiness.  It is my belief that everyone, even people who feel like they really “don’t need it,” should get professional counseling at least once in their life.  Spending a few years in counseling was some of the best time I have ever used developing myself. I remember leaving my first session feeling physically lighter. As I walked away from my counselor’s office I remember looking forward to that following week’s session.

7. Music makes the world go round.

Hard to not feel good if your favorite song is on.  Turn it up and dance, often!  Ever listen to your favorite song and not have it put you in a good mood? 

You are what you think about most of the time, so I choose to keep my mind clear of negativity (even if pretend) as much as possible. Which goes for any content or entertainment you consume. Ever hang out on a trashy blog or watch a trashy tv show and feel gross or down afterward? I have, so I just stay away altogether.

***By the way, to too long ago, I found myself getting caught up in pandemic and police brutality news. I got sucked in and consumed that stuff EVERYDAY! It had gotten bad y’all! So glad I backed away. I was too emotionally invested to have enough balance to not be dragged down by the weight of it all.

It is better for me to mostly stay away. I am abreast of things, but I don’t allow it to consume me so freely anymore.

8. You are who you hang with.  

Hang with happy people and you will feel happier, hang with unhappy people…and, well, you will be unhappy.  Someone that is always complaining about life or how they always get the short end of the stick is not healthy company to keep.

At times I believe it is fine to offer help or to be a listening ear but, being a sounding board and or counselor, to a loved one, for an extended period of time could cause your high vibes to fall.

Wanting to help someone that is struggling is one thing, but trying to help someone who is almost unwilling to help themselves is an unhealthy imbalance. Steer clear.

Do not get sucked into a cycle of listening to someone complain or repeating the same mistakes over and over. Protect your sanity and peace. Peace of mind. You DO NOT have to be a part of an environment that make you unhappy, no matter who’s creating it. When it involves a loved one it can be especially difficult to distance one’s self, however it must be done if you want to carve out abs sustain happiness and peace of mind.

9. Simply make a choice to be happy.

I have learned that happiness is a choice. Stay busy complaining and being down or take action and get inspired. Get happy about the certainty that things will get better. Life is what we make it. One of my favorite quotes, ” A loser sees an obstacle as a reason to quit, a winner sees an obstacle as a reason to get creative.”

10. Lastly, make your bed! 

Please let me know if you try this one out! Our bedroom could be a big mess, but if the bed is nicely made somehow things don’t seem as bad. Plus, it almost feels like the room is clean even when it’s a hot mess.

I just adore a beautifully made bed, it’s an instant mood booster for me. Wondering upstairs in my home and catching a glimpse at my gorgeously made bad makes me so happy, LOL! Is that weird? Who cares! I love it! Hahaha
